Wasp Season in Manchester

What to do when wasps move into your home

It usually starts with one. A lone wasp bumping against the kitchen window, easy enough to swat away and forget about. Then there’s another. And another. By the weekend it feels like you’re hosting a convention.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — it’s one of the most common calls we get at Pest Control Manchester from spring onwards. One wasp is annoying. A nest is a different problem altogether, and it’s not one to leave sitting.

Why wasps are targeting your home

Wasps become a problem in spring and summer, when they’re actively building nests and hunting for food. They want somewhere warm, dry and sheltered, which is why lofts, roof spaces, sheds, garages, wall cavities and even air bricks are such reliable nesting spots.

They’re also drawn to anything sweet. Crumbs on the worktop, sugary drinks left outside, uncovered bins and pet food will all pull wasps in. What starts as a minor irritation can become a full infestation in a matter of weeks.

If you’re seeing noticeably more wasps than usual, there’s a good chance a nest is nearby.

Signs of a wasp nest

  • A steady stream of wasps entering and leaving the same spot
  • Buzzing sounds coming from inside walls or ceilings
  • Increased activity around bins, pet food or sweet drinks
  • A visible nest, papery in appearance, in a loft, garage or tree

Can I deal with it myself?

Short answer: please don’t. Wasps are territorial and will defend a nest aggressively if it’s disturbed. A single sting is painful enough, but when a nest is threatened the wasps release a chemical alarm that triggers the rest of the colony to attack.

Multiple stings are genuinely dangerous, particularly for children, pets, or anyone with a sting allergy. A mature nest can hold thousands of insects. This is one job worth handing over.

What we do

At Manchester Pest Control, we handle wasp nest removal across Greater Manchester, and we keep it quick and discreet. Here’s what to expect when you call:

  • A fast response — a wasp problem doesn’t wait, and neither do we
  • A thorough inspection — we locate the nest, even when it’s tucked somewhere awkward, and assess the risk
  • Safe treatment — professional-grade products applied with the right equipment, safe for your home and family
  • Prevention advice — practical steps to stop them coming back next season

Our technicians are fully trained and insured, whether it’s a single nest in the loft or wasps taking over the garden shed.

Don’t leave it

The longer a nest is left, the bigger and more dangerous it gets. If you’ve noticed unusual wasp activity in or around your property, it’s worth dealing with before they settle in properly.
